Headline: Richmond Women's City Amateur Tournament Semifinals Set After Thrilling Matches

The semifinals of the 96th annual Richmond Women's City Amateur tournament are taking shape after the second day of match play on Wednesday.

 

In the Championship Flight, Fei Rosebro moves on to the semifinals. Rosebro took on 2022 runner-up Peggy Freeman in a match that required 21 holes to decide. Rosebro was up three going into the 16th hole, but Freeman won the final three holes. Rosebro held on to win the match. This was the second-longest match of the week, behind only Janet Kuklinca and Beth Johnson’s 22-hole match on the first day of match play. Freeman's quarterfinal was her second extra-round match this year, as she and Kyoung Lee played 19 holes on Tuesday.

 

Rosebro will face Liza Lewis, who finished second in the Championship Flight finals in 2022. Five-time champion Boodie McGurn will take on Arianna Martin. McGurn and Rosebro are the only champions remaining in the Championship Flight.

 

Beth Musick, runner-up in Flight 1 in 2023, will advance to the semifinals, matching up against Valerie Sarrett. Euna Chang and Karla Knight will compete in Thursday’s Flight 1 semifinals.

 

Flight 2 saw its share of overtime golf as Mari Droney won against Delphine Wright in 19 holes. Droney will face Sharon Talarico in the semifinal round. Natalie Newfield will be matched up against Mary Beth Huneke in the final matchup.

 

In the final flight of the day, Louis Jennings won her matchup against Anita Smith. Jennings will compete against Laurie Cobb, who came out on top in her quarterfinal matchup against Young Choi. Lastly, Elsa Shapiro-Rose will move on to the semifinals after her win against Dianne Smiley.  Elsa and Cathy Plotkin will be the final pairing on Thursday.

 

In the final flight Kelly Wichman won her matchup Karen Narden and Gail McDaniel won their quarterfinal. Semifinals begins with Fei Rosebro at 8:08 a.m.
